How-To-Guide for Students

An Introduction to TEx

About TEx

TEx is a mobile-friendly online learning platform exclusively for students in the UT system. TEx was created to provide you with a personalized Total Educational Experience and to help you to succeed in achieving your academic goals.

How TEx is Organized

Missions: Instead of courses, TEx is organized by missions. In a mission, you can learn the same valuable skills as you would in a course. However, these missions have been specifically built for learning in the TEx platform and provide an engaging, interactive online learning experience.

Modules: At the highest level, each mission is divided into sections called modules. Content is grouped into these modules by topic. For example, in your General Chemistry mission, your modules might include the following:

  • Atoms and Molecules
  • Bonding and Reactions
  • Thermochemistry & Matter

To complete a mission, you must complete all of the modules it contains.

Units: Within each module, your learning materials and activities are grouped into units. Units are focused in on specific areas of the broader module topic. Keeping a General Chemistry mission as our example, the Atoms and Molecules module might contain units such as the following:

  • Measurement and Calculation
  • Waves and Particles
  • The Periodic Table

To complete a module, you’ll need to complete each of the units it contains.

Who’s Who in TEx

With TEx, you can interact with fellow students in your network, instructional facilitators, and a personal coach.

Student Network: Your network will consist of all students studying in the same program as you. Within network will be your cohort. Your cohort includes all students with whom you currently are taking or have taken a class together.

Instructional Facilitators: Each mission will have an instructional facilitator who you can contact for help or advice with coursework, assignments, and all other course-related questions.

Coach: Your coach can provide you with help managing the day-to-day challenges of college life—including financial aid, scheduling issues, and much more.
